Situated centrally in Napier, we are a close-knit group of men always looking to welcome new members. We have a proud history dating back to 1858 and are renowned for our friendly demeanour towards all we meet. We have survived fires, the earthquake, and a number of wine spills. Yet, we stand strong, ready to take on what the Great Architect brings us next.
Our evenings start with dinner. The formal meeting is conducted in the Lodge Room we then return to the dining area to complete the evening. We would greatly welcome your presence at the next lodge evening.
Our Lodge now has a membership of over 60 members of various ages, backgrounds and occupations who enjoy the friendship, values, charity and personal development that the Lodge offers. Our members are not always drawn to Freemasonry because of the ceremonial aspects and may instead be more interested in the charity, educational or social aspects of the Lodge. There are plenty of opportunities to participate in or even help plan and coordinate charity projects helping support the community, education nights for members and visiting Freemasons or social activities for our members and their families. There’s something for everyone within the Lodge.
Twice in the early years Scinde Lodge lost all their records to a fire. Having formed in 1858, purchased a site in Tennyson Street (October 1861), and built a lodge in 1867 all the records were destroyed by the great fire of Napier in December 1886. The lodge was re-built and opened in November 1890. It too was consumed by fire following the Napier Earthquake in February 1931.

What Is Freemasonry All About?
The Freemasons are one of the world's oldest organisations having existed for hundreds of years. The earliest Masons were exactly that - stonemasons.
As Bro Mozart put it, Freemasons are “those who are working for the enlightenment and well-being of their neighbours - striving for the triumph of good”.
Freemasonry means many different things to many different people. Wherever you go in the world, it can be agreed that “Freemasonry takes good men and makes them better men”. For some of our members, it's simply a social activity and sitting down for a drink every month. For others, it's an opportunity to work with the community, find mentorship (or become a mentor), or discover more about the centuries of history of the Freemasons.
